Report on three days State Workshop from 10th to 12th January 2018 organised by Continuing Nursing Education Sub Committee, Meghalaya Nursing Council

BACKGROUND

The Indian Nursing Council has revised the syllabus and regulations for the General Nursing and Midwifery training programme. One of the major changes in the revised curriculum is duration of the programme which has been reduced from 3 ½ years to 3 years, without compromising on the course content and objectives of the course. Internship has been integrated within the 3 years course in this revised GNM syllabus 2015. Therefore, the Meghalaya Nursing Council through the Continuing Nursing Education Sub committee organized this State Workshop.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP

To discuss the implementation of the revised GNM syllabus
To develop implementation plan of the revised syllabus for GNM institutions in Meghalaya.

PARTICIPANTS

Principals, Vice Principals and Nursing Tutors from different Nursing Schools of Meghalaya.

RESOURCE PERSONS

The following resource persons were identified for the workshop. 1. Smt. M. Lyngdoh. Assistant Director Nursing, Govt. of Meghalaya, Shillong 2. Smt. L. Warbah, President, Meghalaya Nursing Council, Shillong. 3. Mr. L.Anand. Lecturer, College of Nursing, NEIGRIHMS.

DAY 1: 10TH JANUARY 2018 The registration started from 8.30 am to 9 am with a total number of 56 registered participants including the organising members, 3 numbers of Resource Persons and 1 Nominated Observer from the Council. So we have a total of 60. The participants were the faculty members from all 7 (seven) Nursing Schools in Meghalaya.

SESSION I: OVERVIEW OF THE REVISED GNM SYLLABUS: The workshop started with the first session on the Overview of the Revised GNM Syllabus given by our two resource Persons, SmtM.Lyngdoh and Smt. L.Warbah.

INAUGURAL PROGRAM

The short inaugural function started at 10 am, graced by Smt. S.Khongsit, Deputy Director of Nursing, Govt of Meghalaya along with other dignitaries, our Resource persons, esteemed guests which included the Administrative Officer of Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital Shillong, Shri K.W. Marbaniang (Retd IAS), Smti B. Rangad Registrar, Meghalaya Nursing Council, Smt C. Lyngdoh Secy- cum- Treasurer, Meghalaya Nursing Council, Smt E. Diengdoh Nursing Superintendent, Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong and other invitees along with the participants. The programme started with the welcome song from the Students of Dr. H Gordon, Roberts Hospital, Shillong and the welcome address was given by Ms. Susy Chen, CNE Sub Committee Member. Overview of the three days workshop was delivered by Smt D.H. Langba, the Organising Secretary also the Coordinator and Convener, CNE Sub Committee. Smt S.Khongsit pointed out that as nurses and educators it is important to keep updating ourselves and to keep learning to keep up with the changing trends the chairperson of the session, Ms. B.Nongrum, CNE Sub Committee Member also the Assistant Organizing Secretary of the workshop proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural program ended at 10.20am followed by the tea break.

GROUP ACTIVITIES ON MASTER PLAN AND CLINICAL ROTATION PLAN

From 11.15 am to 1.15pm, group activities started with the master plan and clinical rotation plan. After lunch, the three groups presented their master plan and clinical rotation plan year wise followed with discussions.

DAY 2: 11TH JANUARY 2018

SESSION II: OVERVIEW ON STUDENTS ASSIGNMENTS AND EVALUATION CRITERIA: Madam M.Lyngdoh highlighted on the INC requirements. The various evaluations performance/criteria had been presented in detail by Smt L.Warbah so that there is a uniformity among all the institutions.

GROUP WORK ON CUMULATIVE RECORD

Group activity on the Cumulative record started at 11 am.Participants very diligently scrutinize the cumulative records and gave their inputs followed by presentations from each group.
Smt L.Warbah presented the transcript as per the INC format.

SESSION III: CALENDAR OF ACADEMIC YEAR: was presented by Smt L Warbah. After a short tea break, discussion on the MNC, Inspection Performa was done.

DAY 3: 12TH JANUARY 2018 The third day started at 9.15 am with discussions on the various students’ assignments, formats with views and suggestions from the participants and the resource persons under the leadership of Smt L.Warbah.

SESSION IV: PROCEDURE BOOK OF THE REVISED GNM SYLLABUS 2015: This session started at 9 am. by Shri L. Anand, Lecturer CON, NEIGRIHMS. He pointed out the importance of maintaining the procedure book as well as the other documents and records.

GROUP WORK ON PROCEDURE BOOK

The group work on the Procedure Book started at 10.50am till 1.20pm. This was followed after lunch by presentations and discussions from all groups.

A recap of the nursing process was also presented by Shri L. Anand.

VALEDICTORY SESSION

The valedictory session started at 4.15 pm with a welcome address by Smt.M.Pasi who is also the treasurer of the workshop. Smt D.H.Langba, the organising secretary gave the workshop report. Feedback from the participants was given by Smt B.Tang, Principal, School of Nursing, Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital. The Valedictory address was given by the honorable chief guest, Smt B.Rangad, Registrar, Meghalaya Nursing Council. Ms. L.Nongkhlaw proposed the vote of thanks and the program concluded at 5.10 pm.
