CHILDREN’S WARD
The Children’s ward in the Hospital was established many years ago by the financial supports of NGOs both from within and outside the country. It has been reported that Meghalaya is one of the highest states in the country that has a maternal death count of 182 per one lakh population against the national average of 122 while the Infant Mortality Rates the number of infants deaths between the age of 0 to 12 months is 2,513 in 2015, 2,427 in 2016, 2512 in 2017, 2,074 in 2018, and 2,524 in 2019. Which is consistent in the past 5 years and a matter of great concern for both maternal and infant mortality rates, aware of the seriousness of the problems at hand the Hospital most recently was fortunate that with the joining of the 3 young Paediatricians whose presence and aspirations towards the need to augment the availability of providing better facilities for the Children admitted in the Hospital culminated in the renovation and refurbishment of the Children’s Ward the tiling works of the floor, wall tiles, painting, children’s play area, and procurement of medical equipment, semi fowler beds, HDU beds etc at a total project cost of INR 30,97,059 inclusive of partial funding by NEEPCO (North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd ) under the CSR & S Scheme 2020-21 and family members of Dr S.S Dohling, Smt.Marqueen Sun . Another facility which is made available is the High Dependency Unit (HDU) within the ward with 5beds for patients who need more intensive observation, treatment and nursing care than is possible in general ward but slightly less than that given in an intensive care unit. The bed capacity of the ward is now 27beds, which comprises of HDU units with 5beds, an Isolation room (OASIS) with 1 bed and the rest 21 beds in Low risk area, caring room, infant care room. The renovated and refurbished ward was completed and also dedicated on 7th May, 2021 by the Hospital Chaplain in presence of Medical Superintendent, Nursing Superintendent, Principal College of Nursing, Doctors and few staff as the state’s protocol due to Pandemic situation restricted to hold formal programme of inauguration as usually done.
