Report of the capping and lamp lighting ceremony

The annual Capping and Lamp Lighting Ceremony of the School of Nursing, Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong, was held on the 8th December 2018 at 10:30 AM in the School Hall. Mrs L. K. Das, Professor cum Principal Woodland Institute of Nursing graced the function as Chief Guest and Dr. (Mrs) E. Warjri Doctor Incharge Urban Health Centre was the Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries present were T.Bn. (Dr) R. Nongrum (Medical Superintendent), Shri K.W. Marbaniang IAS (Retd) (Administrative Officer), Shri. H.F. Pariat (Treasurer) Mrs. E. Diengdoh (Nursing Superintendent) Mrs. L. Warbah,. Principal, School of Nursing & President Meghalaya Nursing Council and Rev. R.M. Kharshandi (Chaplain).

The programme started with an opening speech from the Chairman of the programme Shri K.W.Marbaniang, Administrative Officer. This was followed by Bible reading and prayer offered by Dr.R. Nongrum, Medical Superintendent. Smt. L.Warbah, Principal, School of Nursing welcomed the gathering.

 

Dr (Mrs) E. Warjri, Guest of Honour in her speech highlighted the importance of nurses in the health care sector and reminded of the much needed compassion that we need to have and show towards our patients.
Mrs. L. K. Das, Chief Guest in her address to the gathering beautifully described the importance of the light and gave an inspirational advice to move ahead and achieve the goals set before us especially in the acquisition of autonomy and associated responsibility.
The programme continued with the Guest of Honour capping one newly promoted Sister Tutor and nine graduates which symbolized a step into new and greater responsibilities in nursing profession 30 (Thirty), first year students took their first step into the profession and were capped by Mrs. E. Diengdoh, Nursing Superintendent, while the lighting of the lamp was done by Mrs. P. Wahlang, Assistant Nursing Superintendent who passed the flame of the profession to the fresh batch of students. Recitation of the Nursing Pledge was led by Miss. I.L. Sawkmie, Vice-Principal.

Meritorious students were felicitated with prizes and certificates distributed by the Chief Guest.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Miss Dangapmon Mukhim, Staff Nurse. The programme came to a close by a hymn followed by benediction offered by Rev. R.M. Kharshandi, Chaplain.
